"Dr. Aravind Malagatti" writes with the pen names ‘Aama’, ‘Aravinda ma’ etc. He is a prominent write in the context of the present Dalit literature. He stands unique by his lasting literary impressions on the wide variety of works like fictions, poetry, drama, criticism, folklore and so on.

Mookanige baayi bandaaga’[When the dumb speaks out] is his first collection of poems. Rife self-respect, anger, wrath and fury balanced with the awakened, patient thoughts of literature are found here. The title of this powerful poetry was applied to the entire movement, in the sense that it helped the dumb to open their mouth. Subsequently, a few other collections of poetry like ‘Kappu Kaavy’ [black poetry]. ‘Mooraneya kannu’ [The third eye] and ‘Naada Ninaada’ [Rhythm - Re-rhythm] have been published to his credit. Malagatti’s poetry is known to be of real, authentic experiences.Among his works, the work which attracted serious discussion is his novel ’Karya’. ‘Karya’ is the ceremony held on the third day of the death. The works reveals the ways in which Dalits are exploited by the religious and financial tools of the society. While highlighting the means by which the strong upper classes exploit Dalits through capitalizing on the tradition faith and practices of Dalits themselves; it also brings out competently how minute details of life have helped preserving the dalit zeal. Some named the work as a ‘wonderful symbolic poetry’ and some called it ‘an autobiography of victims’.

‘Government Brahmana’ a renowned work of Dr. Malagatti, is the first dalit autobiography in Kannada and is the one, which has brought new enthusiasm and hope in Kannada Dalit literature. Its way of giving real fresh experiences through metaphorical strength is Superb. It has stood as the preamble of the last important work of this century. The work has been successful in helping the readers at self-assessment and bringing forth the social changes. His style of writing is interesting, thought provoking and attractive. It brings will power to the Dalit readers. This work has been the one, which brought the new waves in Kannada literature

The play ‘samudradolgana uppu’ [The salt inside the ocean] is a work discussing the present burning issues related to Dalits. The life with Dalit experiences has been revealed here. This play is not centered on the roles, but is a multifaceted thought provoking play. ‘Reservation’ is its core theme. The play reveals the political, familial, religious and other variety of faces behind it. Untouchability, rural and urban concepts and the fond bonds of love and affection are expressed on one side and on other, the societal fission is shown. This work is of total new innovative ideas slappingly putting forth the political conspiracies, inner struggles if religions and familial straits. The style incorporates techniques like a play within the play, as there are stories inside a story. The play is timely, by giving clear- cut ideas as to what should be the path traversable, socially and politically. This play poses challenges to the actors and directors and has got the potentialities of being timely for all times.

The criticism namely ‘Dalit Yuga mattu Kannada sahitya’ [Dalit millenium and Kannada literature] puts forth a different literary history by re-criticizing the literature; in addition to putting forth the history and culture of Dallies. This work has shown that, that the yardsticks of criticism and analysis of Dalit literature are totally different. This work is a milestone in the literary history of Kannada. Being an important writer of Kannada, Dr. Aravind Malagatti has been famous for his authentic Dalit experiences and serious thoughtful writing. There is a prevailing opinion that reading him is like reading the Dalit movement in its entirety.
